Wisdom story: A Lesson in Perspective from the Enchanted Forest
In the enchanted forest, all the animals wore special glasses. These glasses shaped the way they saw the world, but none of them knew it. The goat had pink lenses, the rabbit had blue lenses, and the swan had red lenses. Because of this, the goat believed that everything had a soft pink shade. The rabbit was convinced the world was painted in shades of blue. The swan, however, saw everything through a red-tinted glow. They never questioned their vision, nor did they ever discuss it with one another. And so, they lived peacefully, each seeing the world in their own way, unaware that their perceptions were different. One late spring morning, a large flower grew in the middle of the forest. It was unlike anything the animals had ever seen, a tall, vibrant, and radiating sweet fragrance that called them near. The goat gazed at it in admiration and thought, “What a beautiful pink flower!” The rabbit, standing beside the goat, nodded and said to itself, “It is truly wonderful, but it is blue.” The swan, tilting its elegant head, marveled at the sight and concluded, “They must not see well. The most beautiful flower is red.” For the first time, their different perspectives collided. Each was so certain of what they saw that they could not comprehend the others’ descriptions. How could they all be looking at the same flower and yet see something different? The disagreement soon turned into frustration. Voices grew louder, and what started as a simple discussion became a heated argument. Accusations flew, each animal was convinced the others were either mistaken or refusing to see the truth. The once peaceful forest echoed with their shouting.
Just as the noise reached its peak, a mighty eagle soared in from the neighboring forest. With powerful wings, it circled above their heads, creating a fierce gust of wind. The force of the wind knocked the glasses off their faces, sending them tumbling to the ground. As the animals blinked and looked again, they gasped in shock. Before them stood a pure white flower, its petals unstained by any color. For the first time, the goat, the rabbit, and the swan saw the world as it truly was. Silence replaced their shouting. They realized that their glasses had changed the way they perceived reality, making them see things differently. The flower had never been pink, blue, or red it had always been white. They had spent so much time arguing that they had forgotten to consider another possibility that each of them had only seen part of the truth. The eagle, watching from above, spoke with wisdom. “The world is not always as it seems. We all see through different lenses, shaped by our experiences. Understanding one another begins when we recognize that our view is not the only one.” The goat, the rabbit, and the swan exchanged thoughtful glances. They had learned an important lesson not only about perception but about the value of listening and understanding others. From that day forward, they no longer argued about who was right. Instead, they shared their perspectives and tried to see the world through each other’s eyes. And so, the enchanted forest remained a place of harmony, not because everyone saw things the same way, but because they learned to appreciate their differences.
Moral of the story:
- Everyone sees the world differently based on their experiences and biases. Just because someone sees things differently doesn’t mean they are wrong.
- The glasses symbolize how external influences shape how we see the world. Removing biases helps us see reality more clearly.
