Story about change: To grow or not to grow
Two tiny seeds lay in the field where the farmer had scattered them. As the crisp autumn days passed, they nestled into the soil, slowly covered by the earth as the wind and rain worked their magic. They sensed the world changing around them, the air growing cooler, and the days becoming shorter. The seeds huddled together for warmth as the first frost touched the land. They felt the winter winds howl above them, and soon, the heavy snow arrived, blanketing the field in thick white layers. Though hidden beneath the soil, the seeds could still sense the shifts in the world above them. They patiently endured, waiting for something unknown yet important to happen. Time passed, and eventually, the air grew gentler. The snow began to melt, and the soil turned soft and moist once again. The warmth of spring whispered through the ground, awakening something deep inside both seeds. A strange energy stirred within them, urging them to grow. The first seed felt a sense of curiosity and wonder. “What lies above?” it pondered. Driven by an instinct to explore, it pushed a tiny green shoot toward the surface. “And what lies below?” it wondered, sending delicate roots downward, searching for nourishment. The second seed, however, hesitated. “I don’t know what’s up there,” it thought. “It could be dangerous. And I have no idea what’s beneath me, that’s even scarier. Perhaps it’s best to stay right where I am, just a little longer.”
The first seed continued its journey, breaking through the soil to bask in the golden sunlight. The fresh air filled its tiny leaves, and the warmth of the sun encouraged it to grow stronger. Its roots reached deep into the soil, drawing nourishment, stability, and strength. It delighted in the wonders of the world, feeling a sense of achievement with every passing day. Meanwhile, the second seed remained in its place, still uncertain. “What if the sun is too hot? What if the wind is too strong? And who knows what might happen underground? I think I’ll stay put just a little longer.” Spring turned into early summer, and the first seed had transformed into a strong and vibrant plant. It stood tall in the field, surrounded by others who had also embraced the call to grow. Its leaves swayed gently in the breeze, and its roots were firmly planted in the rich earth, ensuring its survival and future growth. But the second seed remained buried in the soil, unchanged, still waiting, still afraid. One day, a hungry chicken pecked at the ground, found the unmoving seed, and swallowed it whole.
Moral of the story:
- There will never be a 100% safe time for a change. Try new things and take chances.
- The only thing in life that is certain is change. Something in your life will change sooner or later. So why not be the one taking charge and make sure the changes that are happening are the ones you are willing and happy to live with.
